The June List (Junilistan) is a Swedish political party, originally constituted as a loose group seeking "cross-party alliance arguing for a reformed European cooperation", started to run in the European Parliament election in 2004. The party was founded in the wake of the Swedish Euro referendum held in September 2003, where adoption of the Euro was rejected. The two main forces behind the party are Nils Lundgren, the former chief economist of Nordea, and Lars Wohlin, a former governor of the Riksbank, who are both sceptical of the Euro. The name was borrowed from the Danish June Movement to which it maintains links.
The party succeeded in capturing three seats in the European Parliament, surprising both political analysts and opponents. The three MEPs are Nils Lundgren (stood as a former social democrat), Lars Wohlin (independent non-socialist, centre-right) and former school teacher Hélène Goudin (also social democrat).
Once elected, the group chose to affiliate themselves with the eurosceptic Independence and Democracy group, thereby openly allying with the League of Polish Families, UKIP, the Northern League and Georgios Karatzaferis. They subsequently attempted to join the European Greens but were vetoed by the Swedish Green Party.
The June List aims to contest the 2006 parliamentary elections in Sweden, and it seems possible from opinion poll evidence that they may be able to break the 4% threshold required to gain seats in the riksdag. These same polls also showed that 55% of the June List's voters believed that the party wanted Sweden to leave the EU, which is not the case.
